Está semana eu assisti "Olha quem está falando" em inglês "Look who's talking".

Vocês se lembram deste filme de 1989 com o John Travolta?

Enfim, o filme é muito legal, vale a pena assistir várias vezes e o melhor de tudo, pouquíssimas gírias. Dá pra assistir em inglês, sem legenda e entender quase tudo.

Excelente para quem está aprendendo inglês e está começando assistir filmes sem legenda.

Buenos Aires - 2011

Hola! Que tal?

Oi pessoal, este mês fui para Buenos Aires, passei 5 dias maravilhosos. A cidade é linda, me lembra muito SP, porém com algumas peculiaridades é claro.

Devo dizer que me diverti bastante, principalmente falando o meu espanhol que já estava um pouco enferrujado, mas, modéstia parte, mandei bem. Lá, a maioria não fala inglês e eu quase discuti com um vendedor que disse que o brasileiro tem que aprender o espanhol primeiro, já que estamos na América do Sul. Tive que explicar para ele que o inglês é a língua mais falada do mundo, sem comentários. Enfim, eu amo espanhol e o meu curso de 2 anos me ajudou bastante.

Aqui está o vídeo com melhores momentos que passei lá com meu maridão e também algumas cenas das apresentações de tango.

Principais Pontos Turísticos:
* Casa Rosada (a sede da presidência da República Argentina)
* Porto Madero (onde se encontra a "Puente de la Mujer - belíssima)
* O Congresso (Na praça do Congresso ligada a Praça de Maio na Av. de Maio)
Na Plaza do Congreso, está a réplica da estátua “O Pensador”, de Auguste Rodin.
* Av. 9 de Julho (a avenida mais larga do mundo - 10 faixas de cada lado)
* Floralis Genérica (Uma escultura metálica situada na "Plaza de las Naciones Unidas" com 23 metros de altura, ela abre de manhã e fecha à noite)
* "El Caminito" no bairro "La Boca" onde também fica o estádio "La Bombonera".
* O bairro da Recoleta (o bairro mais nobre da cidade, várias lojas de grifes se encontram lá)

Além disso, comemos muita carne, uma das especialidades dos argentinos. Lá comi o melhor file mignon da minha vida.

Experimentamos as famosas empanadas. A pizza me lembrou muito as pizzas da Itália (massa mais grossa), fomos no "El Guerrin" (sempre lotado).

Compramos algumas lembrancinhas incluindo é claro, os famosos alfajores e havannets das lojas Havanna.

Fomos em todos os "outlets" (Nike, Adidas, Brooksfield, Lacoste, Puma, Christian Dior...), porém quase não compramos nada, os produtos eram muito ponta de estoque e o preço não era tão barato.

Ficamos no Hotel Dazzler San Telmo, maravilhoso e perto de tudo, recomendo.

O táxi é muito barato, e o metrô mais ainda, cerca de 1,10 pesos a viagem.

A cerveja quilmes é uma delícia, mesmo com frio, tomamos algumas vezes.

Vamos fazer algo diferente hoje... Temos 19 sentenças. Vamos falar sobre pontos importantes em cada uma delas.

1. ON A TRAIN
Usamos "in the" para falar que estamos:
no carro: in the car
no caminhão: in the truck
no taxi: in the taxi

Porém utilizamos "on the" para falarmos que estamos:
no avião: on the plane
no navio: on the ship
no trem: on the train
no barco: on the boat
no ônibus: on the bus

2. ONE
A palavra "one" está substituindo o termo "name". Isto acontece muito no inglês quando o termo referido está subentendido.

3. FELLING
Pode significar "sentimento" ou "pressentimento". Depende do contexto. Aqui quer dizer pressentimento.

6. MEAN
"Mean" pode ser: "significar" or a expressão "quer dizer" como nesta frase.

7. GRAB
Grab = pegar a força

8. TRY TO
Try + verb_ing = esforçar-se para fazer algo
Try to + verb = experimentar fazer algo

9. STEAL FROM
O verbo "roubar de" acompanha a preposição "from". Assim como: learn from (aprender com), buy from (comprar de)...
Muitos confundem o uso do "from" com o "of", porém o "from" refere-se a origem e o "of" a posse.

10. WANTED
Sempre vemos cartazes escritos "wanted" nos filmes de faroeste. Significa: "procurado".

11. TOO
O "too" difere-se do "so" pois o "so" enfatiza a palavra seguinte e o "too" intensifica a palavra negativamente. É usado para dizer que algo é demais (quantidade). Ex.: too far: longe demais.

12. EXACTLY
Ao contrario do que muitos pensam. O "x" neste caso tem som de "g" e nao de "k". E como se fossemos falar "egg" (ovo).

15. WISH TO
O verbo "wish" é usado para expressar desejo, assim como o "would like" (gostaria de). Entretanto, o "wish" é mais usado quando lamentamos por não termos algo e o "would like" é uma maneira educada de pedir alguma coisa.
Ex.: I wish to travel. (Eu gostaria de viajar) Não posso por algum motivo
I wish it was a sunny day. (Eu gostaria que estivesse um dia ensolarado) Reparem o uso do "simple past" neste caso.

16. SO
Usado para enfatizar a palavra seguinte. Ex.: so serious (tão sério)

17. DOWNGRADE
E o oposto de upgrade. Significa retroceder.

18. QUITE
Significa bastante, muito. Ex.: quite serious (muito sério)

19. YOU KNOW
Equivale ao nosso "entendeu".

Biography and Career :
Two years after he was born, his family moved to New Jersey, where Bruce spent his childhood. In 1984, Bruce Willis played on Broadway in "Fool for Love". After that, he traveled to Los Angeles. There were almost 3000 candidates to star in "Moonlight" with Cybill Shepherd, but there was only one to be chosen and that was Bruce Willis. By the 80's he had showed up in several films, but his great debut was in "Blind Date" (1987) with Kim Basinger. Then "Die Hard" (1998) came. The "Die Hard" series made Bruce Willis one of the most popular actors in Hollywood. Other films that increased his success are: "The Fifth Element" (1997), "Armageddon" (1998), "The Sixth Sense" (1999).

Why are books better than the movies versions?

People who love reading are frequently disappointed by the movie versions of their favorite books. There have been some great films made from books, but typically, movie versions of books tend to aggrieve readers because they are not "just like the book". When a film director works off of an adapted screenplay, the results are simply not the same as reading the book.
As pessoas que gostam de ler são frequentemente desapontadas pelas versões do filme de seus livros favoritos. Houve alguns filmes ótimos feitos a partir de livros, mas, normalmente, as versões do filme do livros tendem a afligir os leitores, porque eles não são "exatamente como o livro". Not all movie versions are better than books. Most will agree that a film like The Godfather is better than the book. Few people reread Mario Puzo's novel with fervor, but many watch this film again and again. To most Godfather fans, Francis Ford Coppola significantly improved on the book, and took out a lot of extraneous and pornographic material written by Puzo that was not particularly relevant to the main story. A minority may favor the book, but the majority love the movie more.

Books and movies are very different entities. Films leave little to viewers' imaginations. When you read, you're creating your own movie in a sense, and decide the most important parts: how the characters speak, what they look like, and what their surroundings are like. This process of imagining and interpreting as reader is a creative process distinctly different from viewing a film.

If the director must make a shorter film, there's no way to include everything, especially when it comes from a long book. Gone with the Wind in film version deletes the fact that Scarlett O'Hara had two children by her first two husbands, and really disliked them.

What may work in text, may not always work in film form. We (including film directors and screenplay adaptors) have created mental movie versions through reading, and no film, unless you make it yourself, can truly satisfy.

Olá pessoal, há vários vídeos no Youtube sobre fonética. Eu escolhi este que achei bem completo.

A fonética para mim é a parte mais importante do aprendizado. Durante uma conversa, podemos cometer erros gramaticais, que somos compreendidos. Entretanto, se cometermos um erro de pronúncia, seremos mal interpretados.

Existem palavras, cuja diferença de pronúncia é mínima e podem gerar confusões, como no caso de:

Na minha opinião, deixar para aprender a fonética após anos de estudo, é perder tempo.

A CARD GAME

Como jogar "Gin Rummy":
O "Gin Rummy" é uma das versões mais populares do "Rummy" e é geralmente jogado por dois jogadores.

As combinações consistem em grupos de três ou mais cartas de mesmo valor ou seqüências de três ou mais cartas do mesmo naipe.

Objetivo: combinar suas cartas o mais rápido possível.

As cartas: baralho comum de 52 cartas. Os ases são sempre baixos.

Como Jogar: Quem comprar a carta maior, inicia o jogo. São distribuídas dez cartas para cada jogador. O primeiro jogador inicia virando uma carta do monte com a face para cima. Essa é a primeira carta aberta. As cartas restantes ficam com a face para baixo e servem de reserva.

O adversário tem a primeira opção da primeira carta aberta. Se pegá-la, o jogador faz em seguida um descarte. Se recusá-la, o carteador tem a oportunidade de pegá-la. Se nenhum dos dois quiser essa carta, o adversário compra a carta superior do monte e em seguida descarta.

A vez de cada um se alterna. É permitido pegar o último descarte ou a carta superior do monte. Se for possível, separe suas cartas em grupos e descarte uma. Se for sua vez, você pegou uma carta e todas as suas cartas exceto uma podem ser organizadas em grupos, diga "Gin."

Faça seu descarte final com a carta que não serviu e coloque seu jogo na mesa, aberto. Não é permitido mais comprar após ser feito o "gin" (encaixe).

Nós brasileiros, temos um jeito peculiar de nos expressarmos, por isso a importância de conhecermos bem a estrutura das frases que mais falamos no dia-a-dia. As principais são:

1 - I'm going to... (+ verbo principal).
Ex.: I am going to travel ou I'm gonna (going to) travel .
Eu vou viajar.

2 - I would like... (+ substantivo ou verbo com a partícula "TO")
Ex.: I would like to buy a new pair of shoes ou I'd like a new pair of shoes.
Eu gostaria de comprar um novo par de sapatos / Eu gostaria de um novo par de sapatos.

3 - May I have...? (+ substantivo).
Ex.: May I have a glass of water? ou Can I have a glass of water?
Você pode me dar uma copo de água?

4 - He said that (+ sujeito e complemento)
Ex.: He said that he will get married.
Ele disse que vai se casar.
Adoramos contar casos...

5 - You have to... (+ verbo principal).

Estas são as frases que eu mais uso e percebo também, que muitas pessoas usam.
Basta mudar o complemento e o sujeito (concordá-lo com o verbo), e manter a estrutura para utilizá-las em diversas situações.

Researchers in England discovered the answer by this mistake. They used a super computer to zoom in on the shell-making process while a new shell was forming. They said it all boils down to one protein called OC17 that is essential for forming eggshell. This protein is only found inside a chicken's ovaries, which is proof that the chicken came first. The big question now is where chickens came from. The answer to that is: FROM DINOSSAUROS.

The luxury liner "TITANIC" sank on its maiden voyage after hitting an iceberg on its way from England to New York. More than 1,500 passengers and crew perished and 710 survived, mainly women and children.

O termo específico utilizado em português, "SMOKING", deriva do inglês "smoking jacket", item de vestuário hoje relativamente raro, especificamente envergado com o propósito de fumar tabaco, para que o cheiro do tabaco não invadisse as outras roupas.

E o termo pegou mesmo, assim como: internet, on-line, hobby, delivery, hot-dog, shopping, fashion, diet, etc.

Nem todas as palavras são formadas de uma maneira lógica como:

Horse (cavalo) + Shoe (sapato) = Horseshoe (ferradura)
Police (polícia) + Man (homem) = Policeman (policial)
Hand (mão) + Book (livro) = Handbook (manuscrito)

Não podemos fazer associações lógicas para tudo e por isso nos confundimos.

Por exemplo:
1. Eggplant = Egg (ovo) + Plant (planta) = BERINJELA
2. Os "English muffins" não foram inventados na Inglaterra e nem as "French fries" na França.
3. "Sweetmeats" são doces, enquanto que "sweetbread" é uma carne (moleja).
4. O plural de "tooth" é "teeth". Porque o plural de "booth" não é "beeth".
5. Podemos dizer "to", "two" ou "too" que todo mundo entende, mas não podemos escrever.

Sem contar as palavras com duplo significado:

1. The insurance was invalid for the invalid. (O seguro era inválido para o enfermo)
2. They were too close to the door to close it.(Eles estavam muito próximos da porta para fechá-la)

A maker of luxury travel goods recently launched an advertisement campaign. Video and magazine ads show three men playing table football and laughing in a coffee shop in Madrid, Spain. They are Pele, Maradona and Zidane. Only one name identifies each of them to the world. They talk about football and life.
